In which John has no pants....
I was up way too early this morning, I spent an hour just wandering around staring at things like a zombie, then I watched an episode of Criminal Minds, which probably isn't a good idea when you're half awake. I remember that some women were murdered horribly,  and that Hotch was grumpy and Spencer was very pretty but not a lot else (and I'm aware that isn't enough to even tell you which series it was let alone which episode!)  But now it feels like lunchtime and I'm hungry. I'm jet-lagged by my own stupid body today!

I'm currently writing 5 Times John Lost His Pants for [info]master_kogane because I promised a 'John loses his pants' fic and then I thought up several amusing pant-losing scenarios so I just ran with them all. So sorry, you might not get it today, pant-losing epic-ness may take a little longer!

Also I'm hoping I'm going to get my two next rental DVD's today which should be SGA 3 4-8 and 30 Days of Night. So I may actually end up writing pant-less John while watching John-in-pants. Because writing pant-less John while watching vampires tear people apart would just be wrong clearly (even if there are cross-fandom similarities.) I didn't realise quite how much I'd missed writing crack. So if anyone has any epic and insane crack ideas that they don't want, please feel free to show them to me so I can write things I shouldn't!

Oh and [info]master_kogane picked six of my icons for the icon meme. Which I shan't do myself because I think everyone else has already done it.... Ok everyone hasn't done it, so I shall ask myself!

1. If you want to play tell me, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee!!

1
That would be Dean Winchester from Supernatural putting his gun down the back of his pants. It's slightly filthy and that's why I like it. I'm the sort of person that would be at a loss without some sort of suggestive gun/pants icon I'm certain of it!

2
I know this feeling so very, very well. When you really, really want to write/need to hit a deadline/promised someone fic but instead you spend all day staring at the screen/playing Solitaire/escaping into the wilds of the internet. It's my 'writing frustration' icon.

3
Pushing Daises is so much fun! Oh Ned, you and your kooky 'bringing the dead back to life' powers. This is my icon for when 'Ooops' just won't do! Also it's pretty and red and has Ned in it, and I'm involuntarily rhyming, I think that's what Pushing Daises does to you!

4
Pushing Daises again, look at little Ned, doesn't he look bored? When I'm bored I can be easily lured into misbehaviour. Like writing about things with tentacles, or wing!fic, or sex pollen fic 'everyone turns into a unicorn and hilarity ensues' fic. My bored icons all pretty much say 'make me write something I will be ashamed of for the next forty years, I dare you!'

5
Doctor Who, which I can't say vast amounts about because it's a little spoilery. But look at the little waving thing, isn't he precious! Wouldn't you want a waving icon of him too!

6
I love stock icons, there are some amazing pictures that people can make into fantastic icons. I love this one because it's clean and cool and soft and has Starfish in it! Starfish don't get enough love, look how cool they are! Look how their arms are all wriggling!

I'm not even really in Stargate Atlantis fandom, and I would totally read a fic about John losing his pants.

Also: TINY LITTLE FAT WITH FEET. *waves*

I haven't done this icon meme! Ever! You're the only person on my flist who's done it. :p

I'm so glad that fic where John loses his pants intrigues you! The fandom in general is so huge that I think most of the plot lines are already taken, but I think a 'Sheppard loses his pants in five utterly different and random ways' is just about still open!

The tiny little fat with feet waving is perhaps the cutest Who villain ever!

Oooh well if you decide you want to do the meme I can pick 6 of your icons that interest me.... *strokes mustache*

I don't think that any fandom has a plot line that revolves around '[character] loses his pants in five utterly different and random ways'.

I WANT A TINY LITTLE WAVING FAT.

I would like that very much!

It's nice that I'm cornering the market in 'surprise pant-less-ness' SGA stories :D Oh god someone's going to steal my idea aren't they!

I know, me too, they even have people protesting in the Radio Times that there are no squishy toys of them. I want a squishy Adipose :D

Your interesting icons, tell me about them....

I want a squishy Adipose, but I wouldn't be able to properly convey the shinyness of them.

psst, that's only five icons, aren't you meant to choose six?

The shininess would be extra special...as long as they weren't actually sort of greasy, like fat! D:

Yes, sorry, I just realised I lost one in the copy/pasting extravaganza!

And that one!

Pantsless John is always worth a second look! And yes I was incredibly tempted to steal all John's pants, for the many and varied meanings of the word, and leave him with utterly no pants at all :O

Though in this case, perhaps unfortunately, they are the American pants....

LOL! Pantsless American style: Less fun than pantsless British-style!! :D

Though yes, depriving John Sheppard of his pants either way is entertaining....

Mmm pantsless!John. Even if they are American pants.

Also that writing frustration icon? Oh so very very true. Only my game of choice is Spider Solitaire.

Pantsless John can only improve the world whether he be deprived of American pants or British ones. Or possibly, obeying some obscure law of physics, both kinds! :O

Writing frustration gets me often enough that I need an icon for it, but I know what you mean ordinary solitaire can get old really really quickly. I play spider solitaire too, and minesweeper and very occasionally this weird kids game where you have to make cakes...with icing and sprinkles.....

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-15 01:50 pm UTC (link)
Oh that'd be something to see :D

All games get old so easily. Unless they're super hard, but often I find that I don't bother with playing those games since it'd require all that effort :P

[info]entangled_now

It would, it very much would, and I can't deprive people of a pantsless John can I!? :D

They do, that's the problem, but if I'm in the middle of a writing wilderness I don't want to play anything I'll have to think about too much. I want something that doesn't require too much brain effort so I can think about plot lines if I want....

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-15 02:04 pm UTC (link)
That would be very wrong, depriving us of a pantsless John!

Oh yes. Anything requiring too much brain power will make me feel like I'm actually avoiding working, while with something like Solitaire I can at least tell myself I'm taking a breather so that I can think about what to next write.
(the sad truth being this is exactly what I'm currently doing on a fic that's grown rather large)

I'd be chased with flaming torches and pitchforks for such a terrible crime surely. Once you promise pantless Sheppard you must deliver D:

Exactly, there's that fine line between 'giving your brain a rest' and 'avoiding everything else so you can play games.' And if the game is complicated sometimes I fall into the second camp.

Oooh, is it a very long fic, is it being frustrating and forcing you to go and play games if only to assure that it eventually makes sense and your brain doesn't implode! Mine do that too.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-15 02:45 pm UTC (link)
It's terrible, but true. :(

Well, the more complicated games I owe also have the side effect of scaring me shitless enough so that I only go near them a day a year, scream and go running back to the safe games of Solitaire and Bookworm.

Well, it's gathering around 3500 and I'm only about halfway done (if my mental plan is anything to go by), but now Colby and Lorne refuse to get out of bed and I'm stuck here playing Spider Solitaire while I try to think up ways to con at least one of them out from under the covers.

Damn fics.

I can't play any actual games, with plot and wepons and things or I won't write a thing all day, in fact I might completely forget I'm supposed to be writing anything at all. But yes, things like Bookworm, Bejeweled, Tetris, I can at least take out my frustration in characters that won't behave on them!

I think I should encourage Colby/Lorne fic (I see that now!) But I always fail at having a mental plan of a final word count, though your problem sounds unique, most people have trouble getting them into bed! Mine are always rushing off and doing things, none of mine ever want to stay lounging about (though that's probably the trouble when you pick characters from a drama where there are always people in terrible danger!)

Our fics torment us!

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-15 03:17 pm UTC (link)
Aaah Bejeweled. I've not played that in ages. I remember making my friends frustrated that they couldn't beat me, simply because I'd spend so much time playing when a fic ground to a sudden halt.

I'm glad I've enlightened you on that! And I admit it is sort of unique as I only had minor difficulty getting them in bed, but I wasn't expecting the sudden resistance to move the plot onwards. Or to move at all.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]entangled_now
2008-04-15 05:44 pm UTC (link)
Bejeweled hypnotises me with its jewel dropping noises! I can happily play that for hours just for the clinky clacky sound of it :) Though I tend to only be as good as I'm concentrating on it! The shiny is a good distraction though.

You have! I'm very glad to hear they got in bed with only a little trouble (that's always helpful!) The fact that they're now too distracted to move the plot anywhere...I can see how that would be frustrating (and also a little amusing.)

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-15 06:44 pm UTC (link)
...must resist the urge to go off and play Bejeweled now. But fweee shiny!

Well, I think maybe I've gotten Colby out of bed now. *squints at him suspiciously* And I think the fact that I got them into bed so easily was the fact that, technically, they're in the middle of a relationship so it's not the whole 'first time together' thing, which I always find frustratingly awkward to write. SO I cheated my way around it by only having it as a vague mention :P

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

I caved and played Bejeweled, only a little though :)

I'm intrigued as to how you've gotten Colby out of bed now (maybe I should let myself stay curious until you post it.) But yes it's a lot easier to get them into bed if they're already in a relationship to start with. Though I actually find the first time a lot of fun to write.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-16 11:27 am UTC (link)
I managed to resist. Mostly because I got distracted by things on the telly. XD

I'm terrible at the first time. I have a fic I promised a friend, (Scrubs/SGA) that's a first time fic, and I am so completely stuck on that I'll start whistling innocently whenever it's brought up. And the posting date for my fic isn't until May 6th, so chances were I'd have gotten Colby out of that bed sooner or later. The fact that it was sooner I happily consider an accomplishment.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]entangled_now
2008-04-16 07:44 pm UTC (link)
My powers of resistance are clearly rubbish :) Either that or my TV is just sorely lacking in anything distracting.

I really like them, that first set-up of why and how and where people are together, I like playing with that. Though I get stumped too, usually when I can't hear the characters in my head. But Scrubs/SGA you get extra points for the lols!

*laughs* I'm sure Colby won't be rude enough to spend almost a month in bed! But yeah, stories you've promised are very frustrating when they start to misbehave. I'll have to keep a look out for your fic :D

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]bergann
2008-04-16 07:51 pm UTC (link)
Well, my TV rarely offers good entertainment (except Sundays, which are for some reason, filled with awesome) - but sometimes I need to pause out of sheer horror at what's going on.

It's Dan/John, which I'm finding hard because while I can hear them in my head, seperately, I can't really hear them together and so the word count stays sadly still.

Well you never know with Colby. He could just decide that, really, he can take me in a fight and so clearly there is no way for me to win so that he can call all the shots.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]entangled_now

I think at the moment we get one good program a day, usually between eight and midnight and if you don't find it in time you're forced to watch a documentary about the mating habits of sloths or the history of the propeller airplane instead... D: good TV denial!

That's the same problem I have, is getting the tone of both shows into the fic, or at least to knit together realistically. Instead of ending up with everyone standing around and me going 'interact!' That's always a sad end to the word count.

He could just decide that, really, he can take me in a fight and so clearly there is no way for me to win so that he can call all the shots.

*laughs* That is so very Colby, possibly he can be bribed by promising him something interesting?

Oh yeah, we get those too, only my mom watches really bad cop shows (I watched one episode where they were being horrified about mannequins being split into parts and left around town) or bad drama or reality shows, and so the fun stuff is hidden from me most of the time.

Yeah. If only they could listen to us shouting at them to interact :(

Well, if by 'something interesting' you mean a little Lorne-family bonding and then angstness of s4 season opening, then that is indeed what I'm bribing him with :P

[info]entangled_now

Yes! I forgot the really bad cop shows lurking in the schedule (usually from the seventies or eighties so everyone looks horribly dated and has giant hair!) Every time I end up on one of those someone is crashing a car into something or shaking a suspect.

That's usually when I'll disappear and play a game, then later when I come back they'll usually be doing something they shouldn't.

It's all very epic and adventurous, how could he possibly refuse!

[info]bergann

We don't get much of the cop shows from the seventies - I think at times they might be preferable.

Probably by glancing at Lorne more or less naked in his bed and deciding that really, he's in no hurry to get accused of being a spy and getting thrown in jail. :P

It's a very strange thing to fill the schedules with. I caught half an episode of Hill Street Blues the other day!

I have to agree with that. Though to be fair I think having a naked Lorne in anyone's bed might distract them away from pretty much everything else!

God no, it makes you human. Naked Lorne wins over the rest of humankind any day.

I couldn't help making a poll out of it XD

Also, I spent way too much staring at your icon. I could not decide what to stare at the most - thigh holster, crotch, curve of upper body?

Lol! Your poll was truly a question that needed to be answered. It does look like humanity might be sadly doomed in the event of a naked Lorne though.... :D

Well, then I really think that the universe is at it should be - had the results ended up the other way around, my whole worldview would be pretty much shattered.

It is! Makes me feel like I might not have completely misjudged it after all.

Exactly! It's the perfect icon for crime - at least, the smaller ones.

Well, now we're halfway. I think that trying to get anything but naked Lorne pictures, might get a very scary visit from Colby shortly after.

We can always be relied upon to be shallow :)

Exactly, it's now officially 'I'm off committing a crime, look at this' icon.

That was the absolute best thing about that episode of Blade the Series. Half naked Lorne, half naked Lorne doing slightly filthy things (and with bonus vampire kink to those interested in such things!)

That we can! If nothing else works for us, we have our shallowness.

*squints suspiciously at you* What did you steal?

Hee. I'd consider watching that episode only for that (being ignorant of really anything else related to that series), but I figure I can live with just the pictures for now :P

*squints suspiciously at you* What did you steal?

Now that would be telling :D

It was honestly not a very good series, but then Lorne randomly showed up and it got a lot better for one episode! The pictures give you a fairly good idea of the theme for his episode. It's only the 'vampire making out' bit that comes before that.
